ATCO Emissions Management (ATCO) has won a contract with Iberdrola Energy Projects (Iberdrola) to design and supply two acoustical buildings at the New Salem Harbor Station in Massachusetts.”The New Salem Harbor plant will supply electricity to more than 600,000 homes,” said Harry Wong, Senior Vice President & General Manager, ATCO Emissions Management. “ATCO is very pleased to bring our global expertise in noise emissions solutions to this environmentally progressive project and offer a site-wide noise guarantee.”Iberdrola, the engineering, procurement and construction company for the project, is building a new combined-cycle gas turbine electric generating plant on the site of the decommissioned coal-and-oil-fired Salem Harbor Station generating plant. ATCO will design and supply acoustic envelopes for the combustion turbine generator/heat recovery steam generator and steam turbine generator buildings, and will provide other noise mitigation solutions to comply with the City of Salem’s noise policy and the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection regulations. All the equipment designed and supplied is guaranteed to meet or exceed the acoustic requirements for the project. The structural steel to be used by ATCO is specifically designed for a pre-manufactured panelized acoustic wall system and is engineered to carry the heavy loads of the architectural louver system, a unique structure not commonly found on power plants. ATCO’s panelized design will significantly reduce installation time and will be constructed entirely from the exterior. This will enable other work on the project to be carried out simultaneously, ensuring a smooth workflow and a safer working environment. The project is being developed by Footprint Power Salem Harbor Development LP, a partnership led by Highstar Capital IV, L.P.
