March 11, 2015 | By Business Wire News

SINGAPORE

Antuit, a global Big Data solutions company, and A*STAR’s Singapore Institute of Manufacturing Technology (SIMTech) today announced the formation of the Antuit-SIMTech Supply Chain Analytics Lab, a two-year research collaboration to develop analytics-based solutions for emerging supply chain problems. With an investment of US$1.8 million from the two organizations, the Lab will develop new tools and technologies to help companies manage their supply chains more efficiently and enable supply chain leaders to make data-led decisions.

Housed at SIMTech, the Lab will focus on areas such as the application of data sciences in supply chain planning, supply chain risk mitigation, the use of Internet and communication tools to improve supply chain visibility, yield prediction in precision farming and agriculture, and disruption prediction and demand forecasting through the use of big data and social media. It will provide collaborative workspace for research, experimentation and innovation, leveraging Antuit’s analytics services expertise and SIMTech’s capabilities in research and development.

“Technology is a key driver for productivity improvement, catalyzing the development of solutions that provide industry with a competitive edge,” said Dr. Lim Ser Yong, Executive Director of SIMTech. “A*STAR research institutes such as SIMTech are avenues for SMEs to effectively use technology to improve productivity and capture business opportunities.”

By bringing together business practitioners and leading academics to work on real business problems, Antuit and SIMTech have taken a step towards creating long-term business benefits and outcomes that can deliver as much as 5-10 times more benefit than traditional supply chain solutions deliver today.

“The quality and diversity of available data, when coupled with new tools and greater expertise, will fundamentally transform data-led decision making in the next three to five years,” said Arijit Sengupta, founder and CEO of Antuit. “This is particularly true in the supply chain arena where approaches and technologies have not evolved significantly over the last five years. Together with SIMTech, we are investing in R&D to build next-generation methodologies and tools that link supply chain analytics into Big Data. At the same time, we are establishing a platform for Antuit and SIMTech to emerge as innovators in the analytics space.”

The Lab will be managed and supervised by co-directors Orkan Akcan and Dr. Zhang Nengsheng Allan, from Antuit and SIMTech, respectively.
