Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty Appoints Thomas Williams as Practice Leader, Environmental Impairment Liability North America

December 10, 2015 | By Business Wire News

NEW YORK & ATLANTA

Allianz Group’s specialist corporate insurer Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty® (AGCS) announced today that Thomas Williams has been named regional practice leader, Environmental Impairment Liability (EIL) North America effective immediately. Based in Atlanta, he will report directly to Dieter J. Hautzer, VP, regional head of liability North America. He succeeds Arthur Lu, who has been promoted to head of global EIL, based in New York.

In his position, Mr. Williams is responsible for building the EIL line of business and growing its presence in the U.S., Canada and Mexico. Launched in 2014, the EIL practice offers coverage solutions addressing pollution legal liability, contractors’ pollution liability as well as pollution excess in the construction, energy, manufacturing and real estate segments. As some companies bear higher environmental risks than others, this practice was created to address coverage gaps involving the environment and/or human health, which often involve costly and complex legal expenses.

“Tom’s solid record as both an underwriter and insurance management executive, coupled with his hands-on scientific experience will prove invaluable to our broker partners and clients,” stated Mr. Hautzer. “Environmental extensions offered in standard casualty policies generally do not cover the wide gamut of possible losses in this space, and so we have found a great need for this type of product as businesses increasingly take note of their environmental exposures and ever-tightening regulation.”

Most recently, Mr. Williams was senior VP of the Environmental Division at AIG where he was responsible for a 24-state territory helping to drive profitable development and growth of the organization’s pollution products. Prior to this, he was regional manager in the Environmental Division for the Southeast region, a role he held for more than four years. He began his insurance career at AIG in 2004 as an underwriter.

Prior to joining AIG, Mr. Williams was a project scientist for Delta Environmental Consultants, Pangean Associates as well as the U.S. Geologic Survey. He obtained his MBA from Emory University, an MPA in Environmental Management from The University of Kentucky and a BS in Environmental Science from Mercer University in Macon, Georgia.

“We are truly excited to have someone of Tom’s caliber to help us grow and lead the North American EIL team. He will continue the work in expanding AGCS’s products and solutions for our clients and brokers,” commented Arthur Lu.
