Consistent and efficient flow control on centrifugal pumps and fans is possible with the use of WEG variable speed drives. They provide a wide range of new options for flexibly controlling and getting process information. For centrifugal loads, the power required is proportional to the cube of the speed. For most centrifugal applications, maximum flow is not required all the time. With a WEG variable speed drive, the user can efficiently decrease speed and save energy. For example, at 80% motor speed, the load requires only 51% power. For a 10-hp centrifugal pump system using a WEG drive and motor operating 24 hours, for four hours each at 100% speed, 90% speed, 80% speed, 70% speed, 60% speed and 50% speed, the payback is 15 months.
