Ontario professional engineers recognized for outstanding achievement (December 01, 2004)

Nine professional engineers were honoured for exceptional achievement at the annual Ontario Professional Engineers Awards gala Nov. 20, 2004, in Toronto.

Presented since 1947, the Ontario Professional Engineers Awards recognize outstanding individuals for engineering excellence and community service.

Co-hosted by the Ontario Society of Professional Engineers and Professional Engineers Ontario, the event featured a keynote presentation from internationally-known science fiction writer Robert J. Sawyer.

Awards gala sponsors included ABB Inc., Autodesk, Canada Life, Celestica, Jordan Engineering, Manulife Financial, ScotiaMcLeod, The Personal, and XL Insurance.

The award recipients are as follows:

* Pierre Lassonde, MBA, P.Eng., president and director, Newmont Mining Corp. (Gold Medal)

* Kathy Milsom, P.Eng., president and CEO, Canada Lands Company Ltd. (Engineering Medal, Management)

* Mark J. Chamberlain, P.Eng., former president and CEO, Wescam (Engineering Medal, Entrepreneurship)

* Douglas W. Scott, P.Eng., manager of engineering, City of Thunder Bay (Engineering Medal, Engineering Excellence)

* Mohamed A. Khattab, Ph.D., P.Eng., resident consultant, National Steel Car Ltd. (Engineering Medal, Engineering Excellence)

* Praveen K. Jain, Ph.D., P.Eng., professor, electrical and computer engineering, Queen’s University (Engineering Medal, R & D)

* Robert D. Loree, P.Eng., director of engineering (retired), McMaster University (Citizenship Award)

* Murray C. Temple, Ph.D., P.Eng., chair, board of directors, Hotel-Dieu Grace Hospital (Citizenship Award)

* Susan L. Tighe, Ph.D., P.Eng., assistant professor of civil engineering, University of Waterloo (Engineering Medal, Young Engineer)
