New Federation Formed for Machine, Tool, Die and Mould Industries

The Canadian Association of Moldmakers (CAMM), the Canadian Tooling & Machining Association (CTMA) and the Canadian Pattern-Modelmakers Association (CPMA) signed an official agreement to join together to form the Canadian Machine, Tool, Die and Mould Federation (Canadian MTDM Federation or CMTDMF).

The signing took place July 9, 2003, at the Ford Center for Excellence in Manufacturing in Windsor, Ont.

The CMTDMF will be the voice for the machine, tool, die and mould industry in Canada, and will align itself with other industrial associations in the country. The federation will address important industry-wide issues.

The Canadian Plastics Industry Association — Mold Makers Council (CPIA) has also signed a memorandum of understanding to join the federation.

Within the federation, CAMM, CTMA and CPMA will continue to operate as individual associations, sharing best practices and developing uniform systems and procedures, eliminating redundancies and creating synergies.

The founding associations have more than 400 member companies across the country and represent the majority of Canada’s $3.4-billion manufacturing output by this sector.

The sector employs more than 27,000 people and exports almost $2-billion worldwide.
