Mississauga, ON — The 6th Annual Creating a 21st Century Maintenance Organization conference, September 26-28, 2007, at the Hilton Toronto Airport Hotel, was well-attended, with 40-50 participants overall. A review of the evaluation forms shows that the presentations were well-received and both workshops and both plant tours were found to be very useful. (Two Machinery & Equipment MRO columnists presented papers at the event — Cliff Williams and Len Middleton.)

Don Barry, associate partner, supply chain operations, IBM Business Consulting Services, Toronto, was honoured at the conference with the Federated Press Lifetime Achievement Award in Plant Engineering & Maintenance. It was presented on Sept. 27 during a special luncheon.

“The Award was created to shine a light on excellence and recognize significant contribution to the field of plant engineering and maintenance management,” said Mehran Banei, senior coordinator at Federated Press. The winner is selected by Federated Press’ Award Committee.

Past Award recipients include: Cliff Williams, at the time the maintenance manager of Coca Cola Minute Maid (2006); Dr. Dragan Komljenovic, reliability engineer and nuclear safety advisor, Gentilly 2 Nuclear Generating Station, Hydro-Quebec (2005); and Steve F. Krar, president of the Productivity Development Centre (2004).
