Two new small parallel helical drives, the R17 and R27, have been introduced by SEW Eurodrive. They deliver up to 30% more torque and higher permissible overhung loads, yet weigh up to 20% less than their predecessors. Also, more ratios and more mounting options are offered. The R17 is the company’s smallest helical drive, yet it comes with either two- or three-stage gearing.

Enhancements made to linear system components

Schneeberger’s line of linear motion products include the Monorail MR roller guideway system featuring high rigidity, the Monorail MZ, an anti-friction guideway with integrated rack, the Monorail MR with rollers or the Ball Monorail with a unique internal design, providing smooth movement regardless of acceleration. Also, the Ball Monorail carriage has been improved to include easily replaceable wipers. The company’s linear family also includes frictionless tables, recirculating and linear bearings, linear ball bearings and ball screws. As well, a new Monorail AMD (advanced measuring system) incorporates an integral linear encoder which provides high reliability under adverse conditions and is less susceptible to contaminants such as moisture, oil, grease or dirt than an optical encoder.

Portable staircase eases work in excavations

The Terra-Flex Stair System, made in Crandall, Man., is designed to make it easy and safe to climb in and out of trenches. Five-foot aluminum sections connect together to make a staircase with handrails, while its adjustable stair treads remain level. It easily adjusts to trenches of different slopes and depths. Each 45-lb section folds to a unit 4-in. high. Thirty feet of staircase can be carried in a standard pickup truck. The product was developed as the result of a request from the maintenance department of Interprovincial Pipelines. Modified versions are available for other applications, such as accessing trailers, trucks, rail cars and other equipment.
