Amid cheers from employees, the Gates Power Transmission division recently launched a new product at a rally at its Denver, Colo., headquarters.

The official launch of the Gates Eliminator belt was hosted by John Bohenick, senior vice-president of Gates Power Transmission division, while Justin Aschenbrenner, Gates vice-president of industrial power transmission business development, stood nearby at a mobile tree chipper machine, part of the marketing hype the company was using to promote the product.

In his remarks to more than 150 employees, Bohenick said, “Today we’re introducing a new replacement belt that will penetrate a whole new market …. Gates Eliminator is a high-performance, polyurethane belt that replaces any belt with an RPP profile (reinforced parabolic profile) in RPP sprockets. There’s no need to change sprockets, tensioning or idlers.” He also boasted that the belt would “last a minimum of two times longer than any RPP belt it replaces.”

Next, Aschenbrenner proceeded to feed four competitive belts into the chipper machine, which spit out rubber fragments.
