Hand-held, remote ordering of products from GE Supply, the electrical, voice and data products distribution business of General Electric, now is on-line via its www.gesupply.com website. The system uses a hand-held device that marries a Palm Pilot to a Symbol SPT 1500 scanner which recognizes ID bar codes on product labels. Once scanned, items are uploaded to a PC, which transmits the information on in secure mode to the website, an order is placed and scheduled for delivery.
