Fishery Products International Ltd. (FPI) is a seafood processor with multiple plants located worldwide. At its Port Union, Nfld., shrimp processing plant, FPI uses lift trucks to transport containers of seafood from fishing boats to the plant. The lift trucks operate indoors and outdoors and are subject to salt water and phosphates used in the manufacturing process, both of which have a corrosive effect on the leaf chain used on the trucks.

FPI would get one season of use before having to replace the leaf chain due to the excessive corrosion caused by the environment at the plant. To correct this problem, the company installed Neptune leaf chain from Tsubaki.

Neptune chain has a special anti-corrosive coating that protects the chain without compromising strength. Since installing the new leaf chain, FPI is now entering its third season with the initial chain installation. The new chain has resulted in less downtime, greater productivity and lower maintenance costs.
