Niels Bredick, Senior Solutions Specialist at Sandvik Coromant, is a member of a winning team of the 2020 Henry Ford Technology Award (HFTA) for development and implementation of the Torque Monitoring of Gear Machining Process.

Ford Motor Company awards the HFTA in global recognition of technical achievements that have been implemented into Ford products and production. This award resulted from a new solution developed by the project team from Ford’s Powertrain Manufacturing Engineering (PTME) and Sharonville, Ohio facility.

The overall technology, “Torque Monitoring of Gear Machining Process,”, uses CoroPlus Tool Guard of the Sandvik Coromant Process Control line. The system allows the company to digitally monitor a gear machining process to avoid costly scrap parts. The process generated significant savings, and after proving its value in the Sharonville plant, Ford has piloted the Sandvik Coromant solution in their Livonia, Michigan plant.

“This highlights the power of our digital offer,” said Jeff Rizzie, VP of Digital Machining, Sandvik Coromant. “It shows how we’re able to drive customer satisfaction through non-traditional solutions, as well as the dedication of our digital machining team.”
