Mechanical motions from rotating members, reciprocating arms, conveyor belts and meshing gears present hazards to workers. That’s why the importance of having a machine guarding / safeguarding and lockout program cannot be overstated.
According to the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board, in Ontario about 2,000 people are injured because of machine-related incidents each year.
Facilities can protect workers by posting a fresh copy of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and by planning regular compliance checks. Take your lead from Ontario, where occupational health and safety inspectors will carry out a machine guarding and electrical hazards blitz from January 15 – February 28, 2018.
