Mi HQ-Logo-Horiz-smBirmingham, Ala. – Motion Industries, Inc., a leading distributor of maintenance, repair, and operation replacement parts and a wholly owned subsidiary of Genuine Parts Company, is pleased to announce the building of a new, expanded distribution centre (DC) near Dallas, TX. The facility is scheduled to open in March 2017, and will be managed by Dan Krska. The new address of the building site, on which Motion has just broken ground, will be 200 W. Trinity Boulevard, Grand Prairie, Texas.

“The new facility will provide excellent proximity for our current market and employee base,” said Joe Limbaugh, Motion Industries Vice President, Operations. “The larger space will allow us to grow our industrial supply segment, and adequately fill customer demand in this region. As well, Motion’s 5-star processes and technologies will be implemented as part of the new design, which will accelerate our speed to market.”

The site is in the centre of the DFW Metroplex and less than a half mile off of a major highway. It is also close to LTL carriers and to both of the area’s major airports. With a square footage of 156,000, the new facility will net the company almost 50,000 square feet over the current Dallas distribution center location and will house approximately 50,000 SKUs.

“Motion Industries branches will have accessibility to a deeper selection of current vendors and industrial supplies along with new product lines,” said Limbaugh. The Dallas DC serves 65 Motion Industries branches on a daily basis, and serves more than 550 locations company-wide across North America.

Krska added, “Our external customers in this region will hopefully benefit from our improved and expanded inventories, which will be available under one roof and reduce freight costs.”

The two-storey office will include distribution centre offices, Motion’s Southwest division offices, a full-scale branch with retail space, and an enhanced showcase area for visitors.

The build shop offerings of fluid power conversion, gearbox assembly, cut rails and shafting, and valve assembly will transfer from the current DC to the new facility. The Motion team plans to add a bore-to-size lathe and increased shafting and rail stock in the foreseeable future.

Richard Burmester, Senior Vice President and Group Executive of Motion Industries’ Southwest Division, said, “We are very much looking forward to delivering a new high-efficiency supply chain experience to our customers, to our branches, and to the employees of this DC.”

With the expanded facility and planned inventory increase, Motion Industries plans to add jobs to fulfill the anticipated need for additional material handling employees.

In addition to this facility in the Lone Star State, Motion operates other major North American distribution centres in Birmingham, Alabama; Tracy, California; Chicago, Illinois; Baltimore, Maryland; Edmonton, Alberta; and Lachine, Quebec.
