North Canton, OH – Bearing manufacturer the Timken Company has completed its new headquarters after a $65-million expansion and renovation of its old research centre in Stark County, Ohio. Earlier this year, Timken spun off its steelmaking operations into the new publicly traded corporation TimkenSteel. TimkenSteel remained at the company’s old campus in Canton, OH, while Timken Company relocated about 800 employees north to the renovated research centre site.

According to the Akron Beacon Journal, the research centre dates back to 1966, and expansion began in 2012. The new building was designed to meet LEEDS certification, and changes were made to turn it into Timken’s global headquarters, Douglas H. Smith, product line vice-president at Timken Compary, told the newspaper’s Jim Mackinnon.

The building’s design was intended to create ‘casual collisions’ or informal and unexpected encounters. [Editor’s note: It’s a strategy implemented with success by Steve Jobs at Apple.]
