Markham, ON – Shimco, a manufacturer of precision parts, laminated and edge bonded shims, tapers and spacers, has initiated the Shimco Scholarship at McMaster University located in Hamilton, ON. The scholarship will be awarded annually to a student in the Faculty of Science or Engineering. The value of the award was not announced.
The Shimco Scholarship recognizes a student in the second year of study or higher, who has demonstrated outstanding academic achievement, and who emulates the core values of Shimco: honesty, integrity, respect and cooperation.
With a student population of 23,000, McMaster University is a public research university whose main campus is located in Hamilton. It is a member of the U15, a group of research-intensive universities in Canada and named as one of the top 100 universities in the world by the Shanghai Jiao Tong University Academic Ranking of World Universities in 2012.
“We are delighted to have Shimco participate in our scholarship program,” said Lori Moulden, development officer, regional programs for the university. “It was a pleasure working with Peter Voss in this initiative, which will benefit a McMaster student.”
“As an alumnus of McMaster University, it is my privilege to give back to the university student community with the Shimco Scholarship,” said Voss, who is president of Markham, ON-based Shimco. “My experience with McMaster was extremely positive and influential in my academic and career growth. I look forward to presenting the award to the selected applicant each year, on behalf of the entire Shimco team.”
