Toronto – A Petro-Canada specialist will present a whirlwind tour of the structure, operation and lubrication of wind turbines at an STLE Toronto Section meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2013, at The Old Mill in Toronto. The meeting registration is at 5 p.m., dinner is at 5:30 p.m., and the presentation is at 6:45 p.m.
Those planning to attend are asked to pre-register with Ed Milanczak by e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org. However, you are still able to arrive at the door for the talk and dinner but seating cannot be guaranteed. You will be charged an additional $5 for admission if you have not pre-registered.
The evening’s presenter is Dr. Inga Kuksis, product specialist, research and development, Petro-Canada Lubricants, Mississauga, ON.
Despite technological and construction challenges, the number, size and capacity of wind turbines continues to grow worldwide. Many markets such as off-shore, South America, and Australia have barely been tapped, and most geographies, including Canada, still have enormous potential for growth.
This presentation provides an overview of how and where wind turbines work, and the oil that lubricates the most problematic component in the drivetrain assembly – the gearbox.
Dr. Kuksis has over 10 years experience at Petro-Canada. Her work has involved the development of new products, as well as the technical and quality support for the fluids in the portfolios she has overseen. These have included heat transfer fluids, food-grade lubricants, gear and wind turbine fluids, as well as air and natural gas compressor oils.
She received her Ph.D. in Organometallic Chemistry from Queen’s University in Kingston, ON. Her BSc. in Chemistry and Human Biology is from the University of Toronto. A member of the Society of Tribologists and Lubrication Engineers, she has presented papers at both national and section meetings.
