Oakville, ON – On Aug. 29, 2012, Siemens celebrated its 100th anniversary in Canada, and also marked the inauguration of its new 110,000 sq ft headquarters facility in Oakville, ON.
The subsidiary of German engineering conglomerate Siemens AG started its operations in Canada at the beginning of the 20th century out of a small office in Toronto. The company now employs more than 3,000 in Ontario and a total of 4,400 in Canada in 74 locations, including 13 manufacturing and assembly facilities across the country. Sales for Siemens in Canada for fiscal 2010 were $2.3 billion.
The company’s new LEED-certified ‘green’ building will help consolidate it operations in Ontario and will allow Siemens to hire at least 80 additional employees. The new building has the capacity for 800 employees.
In Ontario, Siemens manufactures equipment to keep power grids running and parts for wind turbines. It also makes imaging equipment for hospitals and parts for water cleaning systems.
In other company news, in May, Siemens welcomed Prairie West Technical Services into its family, hosting an open house at the newly acquired company’s Regina, SK, head office. Prairie West is an electrical service organization specializing in engineering solutions for the utility, industrial, commercial and institutional electrical markets.
