Montreal, QC — Walter Surface Technologies of Montreal is supplying the Canadian Armed Forces Army, Navy and Air Force divisions with Bio-Circle, a green cleaning alternative to solvents. Like many civilian industries that require clean parts and tools, the Canadian military now enjoys an environmentally-friendly solution for an integral part of the soldier’s life: weapons cleaning.

Whether on the battlefield or a training exercise, a weapon’s functionality is mission-critical, so soldiers are meticulous about the cleaning and maintenance of their weapons; any product used must be reliable and effective. But the traditional cleaning method – with solvents – not only exposes soldiers to toxic VOCs (volatile organic compounds) and skin irritants, it produces hazardous waste that requires costly disposal.

Lawrence J. Kowal, Bio-Circle expert and sales representative, explains that firing leaves a lot of residue on the weapons. “We know that in the military when the soldiers come in, after 2,000 or 3,000 rounds, the weapons are just caked to death from firing them. Bio-Circle makes it easy to clean.” Soldiers agree. “Typically I like to do the bolt carriers,” says one. “[Bio-Circle] is perfect for that, because that’s the part that gets most of the dirt in it anyway. So using it is really handy.”

Soldiers also appreciate how efficient Bio-Circle is to use. Another soldier says “Saving time is the biggest thing because, for me, cleaning guns is a pain. To get it done quick and well, that’s everything for me – because I’ve got lots of other things to do.”

With Bio-Circle, reducing operational costs is now compatible with protecting the health and safety of workers, both civilian and military. Now the Canadian Armed Forces can practice environmental stewardship and gain a new competitive advantage, like so many workers in a wide variety of industries worldwide.

Bio-Circle is an environmentally-friendly industrial cleaning solution developed by Walter Surface Technologies. The only self-renewing, self-regenerating parts cleaner on the market, the Bio-Circle solution is non-toxic, non-flammable, biodegradable, and free of VOCs. Bio-Circle eliminates oils and greases on dirty parts, tools and weapons with a process known as ‘bio-remediation’, where microscopic organisms digest contaminants and convert them to carbon dioxide and water. The solution is kept at a comfortable temperature of 41°C, and has a pleasant, green-apple scent. Users apply the solution to parts, soak or scrub them, and then rinse with water. Bio-Circle improves worker productivity and safety, and eliminates the need for the expensive protective equipment and disposal that is associated with solvent use.
