Toronto – Darcor Ltd. has been awarded the 2011 Red Star Design Award in China for its new caster, The Medic. The world’s first single-button, triple-function caster, it won the Excellence Prize for its unique and modern design, quality performance and competitive pricing.
Sponsored by the China Industrial Design Association and the Beijing Industrial Design Centre, the China Red Star Design Awards were created to recognize and encourage the quality and innovative design of products designed, manufactured or sold in China. In 2011, 5,268 products from more than 1,000 enterprises across the globe were submitted, but less than 5% of the products entered received a coveted Red Star.
“Using patented technology and cutting-edge design, we spent more than five years in research and development to create a caster that not only delivers unmatched performance, but is also extremely cost-competitive,” says Darcor director of marketing Kirk Tobias. “We are thrilled and honoured to receive the prestigious China Red Star Design Award, which recognises the unique design aesthetic of The Medic.”
Headquartered in Toronto, Darcor manufactures and exports its casters to some of the world’s leading medical, industrial and automotive companies across 20 countries. China is one of Darcor’s largest growing export markets.
“With its strong global economy and a powerful manufacturing sector driving economic growth, China is certainly a very significant growth market for us and sales have been growing steadily over the last five years,” says Tobias. “Receiving the internationally-acclaimed China Red Star Design Award will help us to better market The Medic globally and further develop our operations in China.”
