Toronto, ON — In light of the recent tsunami that struck Japan on March 11, 2011, the employees of Johnston Equipment, a national material handling equipment supplier, have raised funds totaling over $12,000 in support of the Canadian Red Cross’ Japanese Relief Fund 2011.

The staff at Johnston Equipment was eager to assist after learning of the devastation in Japan. Supported by president Michael Marcotte, noting the company’s strong ties with parent company Toyota Material Handling North America and The Raymond Corporation, all 12 Johnston branch locations participated in fundraising events.

“It’s hard for us to imagine not contributing to the relief fund,” said Marcotte. “Everyone at Johnston was driven to do his or her part in helping the victims of this tragedy. Our employees have shown tremendous generosity and compassion and for that I am proud to be a part of this organization.”

Raised through lunch events, prize raffles, donations, games, bake sales and flea market sales, the contribution made by Johnston Equipment employees is hoped to have a significant impact on those affected by the tsunami.

On April 29, 2011, the Johnston employees’ dedication culminated as they presented Cay Nadon, senior manager, Corporate Partnerships Fund Development for the Canadian Red Cross, with a cheque for $12,000.
