ERCB investigation underway in Alberta after oil-well fire

The Energy Resources Conservation Board (ERCB) is now investigating a fire at a sour oil well licensed to Daylight Energy Ltd. and located 11 kilometres southwest of Lodgepole, Alta. The fire began at 10:20 a.m. on Mar. 4, 2011, during well servicing operations. It was extinguished at approximately 3:30 a.m. on Mar. 5.

There were no injuries and no threat to public safety during the fire. The ERCB did not receive any odour complaints from the public at any time during the incident.

ERCB inspectors are on site and an investigation into the incident is now being conducted, as is the normal practice. All appropriate agencies were notified during the incident.
