FastPic5 inventory management and control software from FastPic Systems optimizes horizontal carousel picking in business to business purchasing applications, providing higher throughput and accuracy, the company says.

Horizontal carousels consist of an oval track with rotating bins containing shelves that deliver items to the operator. They are often used in multiples, organized as integrated workstations. This allows an operator to pick from one active carousel while the others are pre-positioning to be picked the moment the operator is ready.

The FastPic5 software interface for horizontal carousels facilitates a round robin picking routine organizing the picks in the most efficient sequence. For example, the first pick for an order will be located in carousel #1; the second pick will be located in carousel #2; the third in carousel #3 and so on. By making the picks predictable in this way, operators develop a picking rhythm that increases productivity and overall system throughput. To improve throughput even further, FastPic5 software can also integrate batch picking and bar code scanning into picking operations.

FastPic5 software also allows pick to light technology to be integrated with horizontal carousels, increasing picking accuracy. With pick to light technology the operator is directed visually to the exact location of the part to pick. Pick to light technology can increase accuracy up to 99.9%.

FastPic5 software is designed to manage manual and automated storage and retrieval systems and can be configured to control single workstations and multiple work zones. The Standard Interface Protocol provides an efficient link between host order entry systems and FastPic5 software, as well as many WMS and ERP systems.
