Edmonton, AB — A Resource Industry Luncheon organized by the Resource Industry Suppliers Association (RISA) and planned for Sept. 16, 2010, in Edmonton, will feature as its keynote speaker Rob Beekhuizen, project manager for Husky Energy’s Sunrise Oilsands Project.
Husky Energy, headquartered in Calgary, AB, has a 50% working interest with a US refining LLC operated by BP. The Sunrise Oilsands Project is located 60 km northeast of Fort McMurray and will use Steam Assisted Gravity Drainage (SAGD) technology.
Husky has completed the front-end engineering and design (FEED) for Phase 1 and has obtained necessary approvals from the Government of Alberta Environment Department and the Energy Resources and Conservation Board (ERCB) to proceed. The $2.5-billion dollar project is expected to produce 60,000 barrels per day with the completion of Phase I in 2014.
The first five well pads are being built and site preparation work for the central facilities will be finalized this year. The detailed engineering, procurement, and construction phase of the project is scheduled to begin in the second half of 2010. Under current regulatory approvals, production is expected to ramp up to 200,000 bpd once all phases have been built and are operational in the 2020 timeframe.
The meeting takes place at Edmonton’s Chateau Louis Hotel & Conference Centre, 11727 Kingsway Ave., with registration starting at 11:15 a.m. The cost is $45.00 for RISA members or $65 for non-members.
