Toronto, ON — Bicycle frame designer and manufacturer Vroomen.White.Design is the 2010 recipient of Zurich’s Manufacturer of the Year award. Vroomen.White.Design was recently honoured with the award at the Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters’ annual Innovation Awards and Road to Recovery Summit, which took place on Feb. 2, 2010 in Ottawa.
Vroomen.White.Design designs, engineers and manufactures carbon fibre bicycle frames. Its Cervélo brand of bikes crossed the finish line first at the Kona Triathlon, the 2008 Tour de France and the Beijing Olympics.
According to the award judging panel, Vroomen.White.Design’s commitment to innovation, high-quality technology and components, as well as the company’s approach to business was touted as one to emulate.
Martin Lynch, national director of manufacturing for Zurich in Canada, introduced the award presentation by commenting on the creative and resilient way Canadian manufacturers have tackled adversity over the last year.
He said, “As the recovery begins to take hold, I’m convinced the work ethic and innovation of Canadian manufacturers will propel them to continued growth and success.”
In accepting the award, Ted Orfan, general manager for Vroomen.White.Design said, “Like all manufacturers, we were presented with some unusual challenges in 2009 and as such, needed to find different and innovative ways to improve our manufacturing and products. We began by creating ‘Cervélo TestTeam.’ This approach to research and development provided us with the capability to innovate, foster thought leadership and bring products to our customers faster and better. It was simply thinking outside the box.”
