Toronto, ON — Electro-Federation Canada (EFC)and the Electrical Equipment Manufacturers Association of Canada (EEMAC) recently hosted a joint Industrial Speaker Session on the topic of arc flash.
Guests were treated to a presentation by Bill Giffen, an arc flash survivor, who described how his unfortunate encounter with an arc flash caused him a near-life threatening experience.
Giffen shared with the audience the most intimate details of his accident, and his subsequent painful recovery.
His presentation was complemented by an eloquent and compelling presentation by Dr. Mary Capelli-Schellpfeffer, MD, MPA, one of North America’s leading experts in the field of ‘uncontrolled, unintentional energy release during operation, maintenance and construction work’. Her expertise is built through research, consulting and educational technology services.
Both presentations drew the audience’s attention to the life-threatening perils of arc flash and described how many thousands of these incidents that occur throughout North America each year could, and can, be prevented.
