Hamilton, ON — The Society for Maintenance & Reliability Professionals (SMRP) has established the first SMRP chapter in Canada.

The new Hamilton, Ont., chapter will promote and support maintenance and reliability education. Its focus is on people, production and quality processes and ways to improve the work environment and advance reliability best practices.

SMRP, based in McLean, Virg., is incorporated as an independent, not-for-profit professional society, and presents a collective voice on machinery and reliability issues and facilitates information exchange through a structured network of professionals. It has seven official chapters and more than 2,200 members in North America.

Glen Saevil, reliability services product development manager of Ivara Corp., Burlington, Ont., has been elected chairman of the chapter. “We have an exciting year shaping up and look forward to bringing the value and benefits of the SMRP to the local maintenance and reliability community in Southern Ontario,” says Saevil.

The chapter’s goal is to grow its membership and strengthen relationships with industry associations in the region.

The 2007 chapter executive board members include vice-chair Michael Reining of Dofasco Inc., Hamilton; treasurer Adam Gannon of Stelco Inc., Hamlton; and secretary Sandra DiMatteo of Ivara.

General board members include Carlo Odoardi of Ivara; Geoffrey Generalovic of Dofasco; Kevin Deverell of Commtest Inc., Burlington; Larry Cote of Dofasco; Liane Harris of IRIS Maintenance Solutions, Mississauga, Ont.; Maria Carapina of Invensys Process Systems, Burlington; and Randy Grant of Ivara.
