Toronto, ON — Chris Gardner, whose personal rags to riches life story inspired both the movie The Pursuit of Happyness, starring Will Smith, and an autobiographical book of the same title, will be a keynote speaker at IAPA’s (Industrial Accident Prevention Association) 90th annual Health & Safety Canada 2007 Conference and Trade Show, taking place in Toronto April 16-18, 2007.
The Pursuit of Happyness, which opened in movie theatres on December 15, 2006, chronicles Gardner’s life as a homeless person in San Francisco and the sole guardian of his toddler son in the early 1980s. Unwilling to give up his dream of financial independence, Gardner started at the very bottom of the financial industry, often spending nights in a church shelter or in a bathroom at a Bay Area Rapid Transit station in Oakland. Now a self-made multi-millionaire, Gardner is president and CEO of the Chicago-based brokerage firm Gardner Rich & Co.
IAPA has unveiled an action-packed week for its 90th annual Health & Safety Canada 2007 Conference and Trade Show, which also includes Craig Kielburger, children’s rights spokesperson, founder of Free the Children, and Nobel Peace Prize nominee; and Stephen Lewis, UN Special Envoy for HIV/AIDS in Africa, as keynote speakers.
The largest event of its kind in Canada, IAPA’s conference includes three days of keynote speakers, leading-edge workplace health and safety learning sessions, workshops, and professional development courses, and two large trade shows — Health & Safety Canada 2007 and CANECT 2007 — featuring health, safety and the environment under one roof.
Also, the International Association of Labour Inspection (IALI) Conference will take place for the first time in North America in 2007. The 2007 IALI Conference will run in conjunction with Health & Safety Canada 2007 Conference and Trade Show from April 18 – 20, 2007. The 2007 IALI Conference is co-hosted by IAPA, IALI, and Ontario’s Ministry of Labour, in cooperation with the International Labour Organization.
