Chicago, IL — The Power Transmission Distributors Association (PTDA) has released its August 2006 trend data for distributors and manufacturers of power transmission/motion control (PT/MC) products.

Canadian distributors’ year-to-date sales of PT/MC products increased 9.3% as compared to sales for January through August 2005. Sales climbed 8.2% over the previous month and rose 7.7% as compared to 7.2 August 2005.

Days sales in accounts receivables dropped 10.0% from July 2006 and were up 0.9% as compared to the same month last year. Annualized sales to inventory ratio in August was 7.3 as compared to August 2005.

For August, the confidence level of Canadian distributors remained flat at 6.0 on a 10-point scale.

In August, U.S. distributors’ year-to-date sales of PT/MC products rose 11.1% as compared to sales for January through August 2005. Sales climbed 15.3% over the previous month and were up 13.1% as compared to August 2005.

Days sales in accounts receivables declined 9.7% as compared to July 2006 and gained 0.7% as compared to the same month last year. Annualized sales to inventory ratio in August was 10.1, compared to 9.1 in 2005.

For August, the confidence level of U.S. distributors grew to 6.8 from 6.3 in July on a 10-point scale.

Canadian manufacturers’ year-to-date sales of PT/MC products grew 1.5% as compared to sales for January through August in 2005. Sales increased 8.1% over the previous month and decreased 2.1% as compared to August 2005. As compared to July, sales of unmounted bearings, variable speed drives, positions system/linear motion products, mechanical drive systems and other PT products, clutches and brakes increased. Sales of mounted bearings, standard industrial motors, gear products and shaft couplings decreased.

Annualized sales to inventory ratio in August was 7.8, compared to 8.0 in 2005.

For August, the confidence level of Canadian manufacturers fell to 5.1 from 5.4 in July on a 10-point scale.

In August, U.S. manufacturers’ year-to-date sales of PT/MC products gained 8.6% as compared to sales for January through August 2005. Sales climbed 13.6% over the previous month and increased 5.9% as compared to August 2005. As compared to July, sales of mounted bearings, unmounted bearings, standard industrial motors, variable speed drives, positioning systems/linear motion products, gear products, mechanical drives systems and other PT products, clutches and brakes, and shaft couplings increased.

Year-to-date orders of PT/MC products from U.S. manufacturers grew 6.5% as compared to the same period in 2005. August orders were up 7.5% from July, and were up 0.2% as compared to August 2005. Annualized sales to inventory ratio in August was 9.3, compared to 10.3 in 2005.

For August, the confidence level of U.S. manufacturers decreased to 5.4 from 5.6 in July on a 10-point scale.
