Canton, OH — In November 2006, The Timken Company of Canton, Ohio, will expand its line of industrial seals through an agreement with Garlock Sealing Technologies of Palmyra, N.Y.

Timken will source its line of large-bore industrial seals and bearing isolators from Garlock for the U.S. and Canadian markets, and will work to expand the product line globally in 2007. The agreement does not include mechanical seals. Terms were not disclosed.

“This alliance with Timken broadens our global supply network and expands our presence in many important markets,” said Paul Baldetti, president of Garlock Sealing Technologies. “Klozure products are well known for offering superior bearing protection technologies. Now, they will be available on a much wider basis, giving us access to new customers while providing all of our existing customers with more options for obtaining our products as well as improved service.”

The products will be available to authorized Timken industrial distributors and are used in applications across a range of industries, including manufacturing, food, mining, power generation, chemical processing, primary metals, pulp and paper, and oil and gas.

“Introducing these large-bore seals and isolators is part of our strategy to bring a more complete line of friction management products to the industrial distribution channel,” said Michael C. Arnold, president of Timken’s Industrial Group.

Timken’s large-bore industrial seal line includes oil, split, lip, face-type and external seals in large-bore sizes up to 90 inches. Bearing isolators are available in standard, flangeless, grease-purgeable, split pillow-block, step-shaft and vertical styles.

In addition to its large-bore seal offering, Timken currently sells small-bore seals, as well as metric and high-temperature varieties. Timken also provides tools to ease installation, deter seal and bearing damage and prevent premature seal leakage.

“Timken and Garlock have worked together closely for many years,” said Jon Cox, vice-president and general manager for Garlock Klozure. “In formalizing this strong relationship, we’ve created a situation that provides significant benefits for both companies and our respective customers.”

Garlock Klozure will continue to market seals and bearing isolators independently to its distributors and industrial customers.

A current program of capital improvements and modernization at Garlock’s manufacturing facility in Palmyra, N.Y., by parent company EnPro Industries, ensures that manufacturing capacity will be available to meet the increased demand for Klozure products generated by the Garlock Sealing Technologies-Timken agreement.
