Chicago, IL — The Power Transmission Distributors Association (PTDA) has released its May 2006 trend data for distributors and manufacturers of power transmission/motion control (PT/MC) products.

Canadian distributors’ year-to-date sales of PT/MC products grew 9.1% as compared to sales for January through May 2005. Sales rose 8.6% over the previous month and increased 12.7% as compared to May 2005.

Days sales in accounts receivables dropped 9.3% from April 2006 and fell 1.7% as compared to the same month last year. Annualized sales to inventory ratio in May was 8.1, compared to 7.4 in 2005.

For May, the confidence level of Canadian distributors remained flat at 6.8 on a 10-point scale.

In May, U.S. distributors’ year-to-date sales of PT/MC products rose 10.8% as compared to sales for January through May 2005. Sales increased 4.8% over the previous month and were up 13.6% as compared to April 2005.

Days sales in accounts receivables fell 6.2% as compared to April 2006 and decreased 1.4% as compared to the same month last year. Annualized sales to inventory ratio in May was 9.4, compared to 9.2 in 2005.

For May, the confidence level of U.S. distributors increased to 7.3 from 6.7 in April on a 10-point scale.

Canadian manufacturers’ year-to-date sales of PT/MC products increased 2.0% as compared to sales for January through May in 2005. Sales were up 1.6% over the previous month and decreased 3.4% as compared to May 2005.

As compared to April, sales of mounted bearings, unmounted bearings, variable speed drives, gear products and shaft couplings increased. Sales of standard industrial motors, positioning systems and linear motion products, and mechanical drives systems and other PT products, clutches and breaks, decreased.

Annualized sales to inventory ratio in May was 7.4, compared to 7.6 in 2005.

For May, the confidence level of Canadian manufacturers rose to 5.1 from 5.0 in April on a 10-point scale.

In May, U.S. manufacturers’ year-to-date sales of PT/MC products rose 7.3% as compared to sales for January through May 2005. Sales were up 6.2% over the previous month and increased 7.2% as compared to May 2005.

As compared to April, sales of mounted bearings, unmounted bearings, variable speed drives, positioning system/linear motion products, gear products, mechanical drive systems and other PT products, clutches and brakes, and shaft couplings increased. Sales of standard industrial motors decreased.

Year-to-date orders of PT/MC products from U.S. manufacturers grew 8.7% as compared to the same period in 2005. May orders decreased 1.3% from April, but were up 7.8% as compared to May 2005. Annualized sales to inventory ratio in May was 9.0, compared to 9.7 in 2005.

For May, the confidence level of U.S. manufacturers held steady at 5.6 on a 10- point scale.
