Glenview, IL — The industrial products group of Permatex Inc., Hartford, Conn., will merge with Devcon, Danvers, Mass.

Permatex is a producer of gasket cements, threadlocking adhesives, lubricants and hand cleaners, and other products for the industrial MRO market. Devcon is a producer in compounds and products for plant and equipment maintenance, repair, overhaul and protection.

Both Devcon and Permatex already are part of ITW Performance Polymer group, a division of Illinois Tool Works Inc. (ITW), Glenview, Ill.

Under the new arrangement, Devcon will market products under both the Devcon and Permatex brand names. The alliance also includes the operations of Permatex Canada Inc., Mississauga, Ont., and Devcon’s Canadian sales office in Coombs, B.C.

ITW Performance Polymers manufactures and sells adhesives and sealants to original equipment manufacturers, as well as maintenance and repair products, through a worldwide network of industrial distributors in North America, South America, Europe, Australia, Asia, Japan, and the Far East. The business unit consists of five companies: Devcon, Foamseal, Plexus, TACC, and ITW Performance Polymers Consumer Division.

“The expanded offering of proven, high-quality products will further enhance ITW Performance Polymers’ status as a major force in the MRO market,” said David Parry, president of ITW Performance Polymers. “This new partnership also means the customers of both companies will benefit from easier procurement, a wider sales network, and a larger research-and-development team working on products for the future.”

Frank Marino, vice-president, sales & marketing for Permatex Industrial North America, said, “This is definitely a marriage made in heaven. It enables certain synergies — expanded product offerings and improved market coverage — that allow us to better serve our customers.”

Sevan Demirdogen, general manager of Devcon concurred, adding, “We’ve always held Permatex in high regard and thought that their products complemented ours. We’re extremely pleased to now have the chance to offer both Devcon and Permatex products to all our customers.”

Devcon offers the world’s most comprehensive line of products for industrial maintenance and repair. These include epoxy, urethane, and methacrylate compounds for repairing metal, rubber, concrete, and other materials; coatings for protecting surfaces exposed to abrasion, corrosion, and harsh chemicals; and emergency-repair products that allow damaged equipment to be returned to service in minutes. Devcon also offers an extensive line of OEM adhesives including epoxies, methacrylates, cyanoacrylates, urethanes, anaerobics, and light-cure technlogies.

In addition to its industrial MRO products, Permatex is well-known in the automotive aftermarket for its professional service and do-it-yourself repair and appearance products.
