Chicago, IL — The Power Transmission Distributors Association (PTDA) has released the July 2005 trend data for distributors and manufacturers of power transmission/motion control (PT/MC) products.

Canadian distributors’ year-to-date sales of PT/MC products increased 11.5% as compared to sales for January through July 2004. Sales decreased 9.6% over the previous month, but rose 2.6% as compared to July 2004.

Days sales in accounts receivables were up 8.8% over June 2005 and increased 4.5% as compared to the same month last year. Annualized sales to inventory ratio was 6.9 in July 2005, as compared to 7.5 in July 2004.

For July, the confidence level of Canadian distributors fell to 6.5 from 6.8 in June on a 10-point scale.

In July, U.S. distributors’ year-to-date sales of PT/MC products rose 10.9% as compared to sales for January through July 2004. Sales decreased 11.0% over June and were up 5.1% as compared to July 2004.

Days sales in accounts receivables increased 11.9% as compared over June 2005 and declined 0.3% as compared to the same month last year. Annualized sales to inventory ratio was 8.3 in July, compared to 8.5 in July 2004.

For July, the confidence level of U.S. distributors fell to 6.5 from 6.8 in June on a 10-point scale.

Canadian manufacturers’ sales of PT/MC products increased 2.9% as compared to sales for January through July in 2004. Sales decreased 10.6% over the previous month and were up 0.9% as compared to July 2004. As compared to June, sales of clutches and brakes increased. Sales of mounted bearings, unmounted bearings, variable speed drives, gear products, mechanical drive systems and other PT products, and shaft couplings decreased.

For July, the confidence level of Canadian manufacturers fell to 5.2 from 5.4 in June on a 10-point scale.

In July, U.S. manufacturers’ sales of PT/MC products grew 11.0% as compared to sales for January through July 2004. Sales dropped 16.4% over the previous month but increased 2.7% as compared to July 2004. As compared to June, sales of clutches and brakes increased. Sales of mounted bearings, unmounted bearings, standard industrial motors, variable speed drives, positioning systems/linear motion products, gear products, mechanical drive systems and other PT products, and shaft couplings decreased.

Year-to-date orders of PT/MC products from U.S. manufacturers rose 14.9% as compared to 2004. July orders were down 6.9% over June but grew 16.9% as compared to July 2004. Annualized sales to inventory ratio was 8.1 in July 2005 and July 2004.

For July, the confidence level of U.S. manufacturers remained flat at 5.5 on a 10-point scale.
