Chicago, Ill. — The Power Transmission Distributors Association (PTDA) has released the June 2005 trend data for distributors and manufacturers of power transmission/motion control (PT/MC) products.

In June, U.S. distributors’ year-to-date sales of PT/MC products rose 11.7% as compared to sales for January through June 2004. Sales increased 4.5% over May and were up 7.7% as compared to June 2004.

Days sales in accounts receivables decreased 1.5% as compared over May 2005 and declined 0.6% as compared to the same month last year. Annualized sales to inventory ratio in June was 11.2, compared to 9.5 in 2004.

For June, the confidence level of U.S. distributors remained flat at 6.8 on a 10-point scale.

Canadian distributors’ year-to-date sales of PT/MC products increased 13.0% as compared to sales for January through June 2004. Sales decreased 0.6% over the previous month, but rose 10.3% as compared to June 2004.

Days sales in accounts receivables were up 4.2% over May 2005 and increased 2.6% as compared to the same month last year. Annualized sales to inventory ratio was 7.9 in June 2005 and June 2004.

For June, the confidence level of Canadian distributors remained flat at 6.8 on a 10-point scale.

In June, U.S. manufacturers’ sales of PT/MC products grew 12.4% as compared to sales for January through June 2004. Sales were up 5.6% over the previous month and rose 10.6% as compared to June 2004. As compared to May, sales of mounted bearings, unmounted bearings, standard industrial motors, variable speed drives, positioning systems/linear motion products, gear products, and shaft couplings increased. Sales of mechanical drive systems and other PT products, and clutches and brakes decreased.

Year-to-date orders of PT/MC products from U.S. manufacturers rose 14.6% as compared to 2004. June orders were up 10.6% over May and grew 18.8% as compared to June 2004. Annualized sales to inventory ratio in June was 10.7, compared to 9.5 in 2004.

For June, the confidence level of U.S. manufacturers remained flat at 5.5 on a 10-point scale.

Canadian manufacturers’ sales of PT/MC products increased 3.3% as compared to sales for January through June in 2004. Sales decreased 0.5 over the previous month and were up 0.4% as compared to June 2004. As compared to May, sales of mounted bearings, variable speed drives, gear products, and mechanical drive systems and other PT products increased. Sales of unmounted bearings, clutches and brakes, and shaft couplings decreased.

For June, the confidence level of Canadian manufacturers rose from 5.2 in May to 5.4 in June on a 10-point scale.
