Chicago, Ill. — The Power Transmission Distributors Association (PTDA) has released its May 2005 trend data for distributors and manufacturers of power transmission/motion control (PT/MC) products.

In May, Canadian distributors’ year-to-date sales of PT/MC products increased 14.0% as compared to sales for January through May 2004. Sales decreased 4.4% over the previous month, but rose 17.9% as compared to May 2004.

Days sales in accounts receivables increased 1.5% over April 2005 and decreased 7.1% as compared to the same month last year. Annualized sales to inventory ratio in May was 7.4 compared to 7.3 in 2004.

For May, the confidence level of Canadian distributors remained flat at 6.8 on a 10-point scale.

In May, U.S. distributors’ year-to-date sales of PT/MC products increased 12.5% as compared to sales for January through May 2004. Sales decreased 2.9% over April and rose 14.9% as compared to May 2004.

Days sales in accounts receivables decreased 3.0% as compared over April 2005 and went down 7.0% as compared to the same month last year. Annualized sales to inventory ratio in May was 9.1, compared to 8.5 in 2004.

For May, the confidence level of U.S. distributors rose from 6.7 in April to 6.8 on a 10-point scale.

Canadian manufacturers’ sales of PT/MC products increased 3.9% as compared to sales for January through May in 2004. Sales remained flat over the previous month and went up 8.9% as compared to May 2004. As compared to April, sales of mounted bearings, variable speed drives, gear products, clutches and brakes, and shaft couplings increased. Sales of unmounted bearings, and mechanical drive systems and other PT products decreased.

For May, the confidence level of Canadian manufacturers remained flat at 5.2 on a 10-point scale.

In May, U.S. manufacturers’ year to date sales of PT/MC products grew 12.8% as compared to sales for January through May 2004. Sales decreased 1.6% over the previous month and increased 9.6% as compared to May 2004.

As compared to April, sales of mounted bearings, unmounted bearings, standard industrial motors, variable speed drives, positioning systems/linear motion products, gear products, mechanical drive systems and other PT products, clutches and brakes, and shaft couplings decreased.

Year-to-date orders of PT/MC products from U.S. manufacturers rose 13.7% as compared to 2004. May orders decreased 1.8% over April and increased 12.2% as compared to May 2004. Annualized sales to inventory ratio in May was 9.7, compared to 10.1 in 2004.

For May, the confidence level of U.S. manufacturers remained flat at 5.5 on a 10-point scale.
