Montreal, QC — Montreal-based GE Hydro Canada, a subsidiary of General Electric, is completing a US$4.16 million contract from Vattenfall AB of Sweden to refurbish a generator at the Bastusel Power Plant on the Skelleftev, a river in northern Sweden.
GE supplied a new stator, rotor poles and excitation equipment for the Elin generator at the facility. The 114-MW hydro plant has been in operation for more than 30 years.
Through the refurbishment, the generator’s power rating increased from 115 to more than 133 megavolt amperes. The generator stator was damaged during 2001 due to overheating, and temporary repairs were done at that time.
