Chicago, IL — The Power Transmission Distributors Association has released its September 2004 trend data for distributors and manufacturers of power transmission/motion control (PT/MC) products.

Canadian distributors’ year-to-date sales of PT/MC products increased 9.5% as compared to sales for January through September 2003. Sales grew 11.3% over the previous month and climbed 14.6% as compared to September 2003.

Days sales in accounts receivables decreased 6.2% over August 2004 and fell 2.0% as compared to the same month last year. Annualized sales to inventory ratio in September was 7.9, compared to 7.0 in 2003.

For September, the confidence level of Canadian distributors remained flat at 6.5 on a 10-point scale.

In September, U.S. distributors’ year-to-date sales of PT/MC products grew 11.2% as compared to sales for January through September 2003. Sales increased 0.7% over the previous month and increased 14.5% as compared to September 2003.

Days sales in accounts receivables rose 2.5% over August 2004 and increased 1.5% as compared to the same month last year. Annualized sales to inventory ratio in September was 9.1, compared to 8.4 in 2003.

For September, the confidence level of U.S. distributors rose to 6.7 on a 10-point scale.

Canadian manufacturers’ sales of PT/MC products increased 5.7% as compared to sales for January through September in 2003. Sales rose 8.6% over the previous month and increased 8.2% as compared to September 2003.

As compared to August, sales of mounted bearings, unmounted bearings, variable speed drives, gear products, mechanical drive systems and other PT products increased. Sales of clutches and brakes, and shaft couplings decreased.

For September, the confidence level of Canadian manufacturers remained flat at 5.6 on a 10-point scale.

In September, U.S. manufacturers’ sales of PT/MC products rose 9.7% as compared to sales for January through September 2003. Sales increased 3.0% over the previous month and grew 9.7% as compared to September 2003.

As compared to August, sales of mounted bearings, unmounted bearings, standard industrial motors, variable speed drives, positioning systems/linear motion products, mechanical drive systems and other PT products, and shaft couplings increased. Sales of gear products, and clutches and brakes decreased.

Year-to-date orders of PT/MC products from U.S. manufacturers grew 12.3% as compared to 2003. September orders increased 2.8% over August and climbed 14.2% as compared to September 2003. Annualized sales to inventory ratio in September was 9.8, compared to 9.5 in 2003.

For September, the confidence level of U.S. manufacturers rose to 5.9 on a 10-point scale.
