Chicago, IL — The Power Transmission Distributors Association (PTDA) has released its June 2004 trend data for distributors and manufacturers of power transmission/motion control (PT/MC) products.

Canadian distributors’ year-to-date sales of PT/MC products to June 2004 increased 7.1% as compared to sales for January through June 2003. Sales rose 6.1% over the previous month and grew 12.3% as compared to June 2003.

Days sales in accounts receivables decreased 6.3% over May 2003 and fell 11.0% as compared to the same month last year. Annualized sales to inventory ratio in June was 7.9, compared to 6.8 in 2003.

For June, the confidence level of Canadian distributors remained flat at 6.3 on a 10-point scale.

In June, U.S. distributors’ year-to-date sales of PT/MC products increased 9.2% as compared to sales for January through June 2003. Sales rose 11.4% over the previous month and grew 15.9% as compared to June 2003.

Days sales in accounts receivables decreased 8.0% over May 2004 and increased 2.7% as compared to the same month last year. Annualized sales to inventory ratio in June was 9.5, compared to 7.9 in 2003.

For June, the confidence level of U.S. distributors rose to 6.5 on a 10-point scale.

Canadian manufacturers’ sales of PT/MC products increased 3.2% as compared to sales for January through June in 2003. Sales rose 8.1% over the previous month and gained 8.0% as compared to June 2003. As compared to May, sales of mounted bearings, unmounted bearings, variable speed drives, shaft couplings, clutches and brakes, and mechanical drive systems and other PT products increased. Sales of gear products decreased.

For June , the confidence level of Canadian manufacturers rose to 5.5 on a 10-point scale.

In June, U.S. manufacturers’ sales of PT/MC products increased 8.0% as compared to sales for January through June 2003. Sales went up 4.6% over the previous month and climbed 11.3% as compared to June 2003. As compared to May, sales of mounted bearings, unmounted bearings, standard industrial motors, variable speed drives, shaft couplings, positioning systems/linear motion products, gear products, and mechanical drive systems and other PT products increased. Sales of clutches and brakes decreased.

Year-to-date orders of PT/MC products from U.S. manufacturers grew 11.0% as compared to 2003. June orders increased 4.4% over May and rose 9.3% as compared to June 2003. Annualized sales to inventory ratio in June was 9.5, as compared to 7.9 in 2003.

For June, the confidence level of U.S. manufacturers remained flat at 5.6 on a 10-point scale.
