Chesapeake, VA — Ronald J. Smith has been promoted to the position of president and chief operating officer of Sumitomo Machinery Corporation of America (SMA).

His most recent position was vice-president, sales and marketing for the company. Smith has over 12 years of experience with SMA and more than 25 years of power transmission industry experience.

“Ron possesses a passion for our business, loyalty to our company and employees, and a leadership style that brings out commitment and enthusiasm by those fortunate to work directly with him,” said Nobuhiko Kawamura, chairman of SMA
