Montreal, QC — Dec. 28, 2001 — Domtar Inc.has obtained ISO 14001 certification for its forest management practices in Matagami, Lebel-sur-Quevillon, Val-d’Or and Grand-Remous in the province of Quebec.
The scope of the ISO 14001 environmental management system applies to the planning, supervision and demonstration of forest management practices. These include harvesting, road construction and maintenance, transportation, scaling and silviculture operations. To obtain certification, Domtar had to accept to be audited by a third party and put in place mechanisms to inform the public of its activities.
Members of the Quality Management Institute (QMI) verified the compliance to the environmental management system. Domtar said that all its forest management operations in Quebec, Ontario and the United States also will be certified ISO 14001.
Domtar is the second largest producer of uncoated freesheet paper in North America and the third largest in the world. It is also a leading manufacturer of business papers, printing and publishing papers, and technical and specialty papers.
