Fort Worth, TX — Dec. 19, 2001 — American Airlines has awarded the best among its mechanics with the company’s highest honour. Twenty-two mechanics were awarded the company’s Golden Wrench award for their exceptional skill and outstanding commitment to quality and safety, as judged by their peers.

“We are especially proud of our mechanics this year, given the challenges they have faced. This small group of award winners represents just a few members of an elite group of professionals …. Hats off to all 9,600 of our aircraft mechanics,” said Dan Huffman, senior vice-president of maintenance and engineering for American.

The group is primarily responsible for maintaining the company’s fleet of more than 700 aircraft.

The Golden Wrench Award was established in 1989 to recognize aviation maintenance technicians who have reached the highest levels of safety, quality and technical expertise.
