Montreal, QC — Oct. 5, 2001 — Groupe Laperrire & Verreault Inc., a Quebec-based machinery maker and distributor serving the pulp and paper industry, has become North America’s leading supplier of pulp and paper mill equipment, according to a recent report in the Financial Post written by Robert Gibbens following the company’s annual meeting. The company also serves the mining and environmental sectors.
The 26-year-old company has grown over the past few years by buying businesses from large but struggling companies such as Beloit Corp. It then reduced production costs at the acquired organizations and integrated them into its own network in Canada, the United States, Scandinavia and Europe.
The company is still looking for more small- and medium-sized businesses to buy
GL&V also intends to make itself more oriented towards maintenance, after-sales service and replacement parts. After-sales service, which accounted for only five per cent of business in 1995, has recently reached 54 per cent.
Repair and refurbishing services are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The work involves the repair and refurbishing of equipment to OEM specifications, as well as and upgrades to current technologies.
GL&V has formal licensing agreements with Ahlstrom Kamyr Inc. for the repair and modification of stock preparation equipment, as well as with Dorr-Oliver for filtration products, and GL&V/Black Clawson-Kennedy for pulp and paper machines.
