April 11, 2001 — The Timken Co. of Canton, OH, a bearing manufacturer, and equipment manufacturer Bardella of Sao Paulo, Brazil, will participate in a joint venture that will provide industrial services to the steel and aluminum industries in Brazil. To be called Bardella Timken Industrial Services, the new company is to operate from a Bardella facility in Guarulhos, near Sao Paulo.
Industrial services that will be offered include engineering and repair for rolling mill components, the maintenance of overhead cranes, and the contract operation of mill roll maintenance shops.
Michael Arnold, president of Timken’s industrial group, said, “With the recent privatization of the mill industry in Brazil, there is greater opportunity to deliver to mill operators customized services and engineering solutions aimed at reducing their costs,”
Timken manufactures highly engineered bearings, alloy and specialty steels and components. Bardella serves the steel, aluminum, hydroelectric power and mining industries with industrial equipment manufacturing, site erection and installation services.
