Toronto, ON, March 7, 2001 NTN Bearing Corporation will be a major sponsor of Scott Dixon, the number 18 PacWest Toyota Reynard entry in the 2001 CART Fedex Championship Series. NTN will provide technical assistance on bearing packages to PacWest, with a strong focus on applications, research and development.
The New Zealand driver, a six-time Indy Lights winner in 2000, is set to be the youngest driver in the 2001 title chase at 20 years of age. Dixon recorded a total of seven wins in his two-year Dayton Indy Lights career and is the current Indy Lights Champion. He finished fifth in the 1999 Indy Lights Championship and second in the Rookie of the Year standings.
"A Champ Car drive has been my goal since day one, and it’s fantastic that I will realize that at this stage of my career," said Dixon. Dixon is the latest in a long line of Indy Lights drivers to progress to the Champ Car ranks, including current drivers Paul Tracy, Adrian Fernandez and Oriol Servia.
As one of PacWest’s partners, NTN will have corporate logos on the number 17 car of Mauricio Gugelmin and the two Indylights entries, one of which is driven by Dan Wheldon, a former top Toyota Atlantic driver. Last year, Wheldon competed with NTN sponsored driver Rocky Moran in the CART Toyota Atlantic Championship, finishing second in the championship to Buddy Rice.
The PacWest Racing Group, based in Indianapolis, IN, operates a professional CART championship auto racing team and maintains two entries in the CART FedEx Championship Series and two entries in the Dayton Indy Lights Series
