Emergence of Sensor-Less Controls to Drive the Global Brushless DC Motors Market Until 2020, Says Technavio

February 5, 2016 | By Business Wire News

LONDON

According to the latest market research report by Technavio, the global brushless DC motors marketis expected to grow at a CAGR of close to 13% until 2020.

In this report, Technavio covers the present scenario and growth prospects of the global brushless DC motors market for 2016-2020. The market size has been calculated based on revenues generated from the sales of brushless DC motors, and includes end-users, such as automotive, consumer durables, industrial, aerospace and defense, and healthcare.

“A sensor-less control for brushless DC motors indicates that the instrument does not have rotor position systems such as an optical encoder, hall effect sensor, resolver, cabling, and decoding circuitry. The sensor-less control helps reduce costs while improving reliability and durability. It is also capable of reducing the number of electrical connections, thus eliminating mechanical alignment problems, while cutting down the size and weight of a motor,” said Vineeth Purushotham, a Technavio industry analyst for automationresearch.

“Our research predicts that sensor-less controls in brushless DC motors will drive the market because of its low-cost advantage. We also predict that end-users, such as automotive, industrial machinery, and home appliances will accept brushless DC motors, as it has digital filtering that allows it to accurately detect the zero-cross events in a back-EMF signal,” added Vineeth.

Segmentation of the global brushless DC motors market by region 2015 (% shares)

APAC: largest region for the global brushless DC motor market

The brushless DC motors market in APAC was valued at close to USD 12 billion in 2015 and is predicted to reach USD 22.44 billion by 2020. End-user segments, such as building automation, home appliances, and aerospace and defense are likely to ensure steady growth of the brushless DC motors market during the forecast period in APAC. Parts of commercial sectors, such as building automation, are adopting these motors to build pumps, HVAC, and air conditioners. In 2015, the building automation market contributed close to USD 11.89 billion in revenue.

The large-scale production of electric vehicles in China and Japan has also led to market growth. China had around 2.3 billion electric vehicles in 2014 and is currently a leading consumer of green vehicles in APAC. Growth of industries such as aerospace and defense in countries like India and China is also expected to boost the brushless DC market during the forecast period.

Americas: second largest region for the global brushless DC motors market

Latin American countries, such as Brazil, Mexico, Columbia, and Venezuela, are using the latest industrial automation systems to power expansion in their manufacturing industries. The industrial automation system, which uses brushless DC motors is preferred due to its advantages such as clean and efficient energy and compliance with government regulations.

In 2015, the building automation market in the Americas was worth close to USD 8.61 billion and is showing no signs of slowing down. It is estimated that the growth of building automation market in the Americas will aid the growth of brushless DC motors market.

EMEA region in the global brushless DC motors market

The automotive industry is partly driving the brushless DC motors market in EMEA. In 2014, the industry received an investment of around USD 45.7 billion to drive innovation through R&D in vehicles that consume less energy and are environment-friendly. In Europe, 23,726 electric vehicles were sold in 2015. Brushless DC motors are also being used in oil drilling equipment in the Middle East, especially in Egypt, Iran, Turkey, UAE, Israel, and Syria. This region has 40% of the world’s conventional oil reserves.

Our research shows, the growth of electric vehicles in Europe and the rise in oil reserves in Middle Eastern countries will immensely benefit the brushless DC motors market during the forecast period.
