Edmonton — Suncor Energy reports that it has begun planned maintenance at its Edmonton refinery. The maintenance work is part of the refinery’s ongoing maintenance program designed to support safe, reliable operations.

Approximately 1,400 employees and contractors will be involved in the work, which is scheduled to last approximately eight weeks.

Suncor says it will focus on completing the maintenance work in a safe manner while minimizing any impact on its neighbours, customers or the environment.

Although the maintenance work may result in an increase in flaring, noise and traffic related to Suncor’s operations, the company says the necessary precautions have been taken to ensure these disruptions are kept to a minimum.

During this period Suncor has made the necessary arrangements to ensure sufficient finished products are available and expects all customer supply agreements will be met. The impact of this maintenance on refinery throughput and utilization has been factored into Suncor’s annual guidance.
