Toronto, ON -- Machinery & Equipment MRO magazine has received an award nomination in a prestigious competition for business and trade magazine journalism for a feature article published last year.

The Kenneth R. Wilson (KRW) Awards are presented annually by the Canadian Business Press and Magazines Canada. Business and trade magazines submitted their best work in 22 different categories, and nominees were named from the top entries in each category. Over 540 entries were received in the 2013 competition, the 60th year for the awards. Fewer than one in three of these received nominations.

MRO Magazine’s senior contributing editor, Carroll McCormick, received the nomination in the Best Industrial/Manufacturing Article category for his feature story, ‘Climbing the Safety Ladder’. It appeared in the June 2013 issue of Machinery & Equipment MRO on pages 10 and 11.

This case study of Domtar’s maintenance safety practices is an eye-opener, explaining why the company’s Windsor, QC, mill has such a great safety record. Of particular importance – and uncommon – is the mill’s tracking of ‘near misses’ – close calls or near accidents. Recognizing such potential hazards like near misses goes a long way to preventing future incidents and injuries. The article also contains many more tips and ideas – some quite simple to implement – for improving your own maintenance safety.

In previous years, the magazine has received countless nominations and won a total of 11 KRW Awards, including three Gold (first place) Awards. We also have received a total of six APEX Awards for Publication Excellence, including a prestigious Grand Award last year, in another, international publishing competition.
