Laser cuts a scary face into a stainless steel sphere.
Rugby, England — To celebrate Halloween, JK Lasers has cut a version of a traditional Halloween pumpkin using its 400W single-mode fibre laser (JK400FL).
The 17 cm sphere of 0.5-mm stainless steel was cut using a robot with a height sensing head to enable it to follow the 3D design.
In a straight line, this material can be processed at speeds of up to 20 m/min. 3D cutting, however, is slower due to the robotic equipment limitations and more complex shapes.
