As an integral part of the wet end of a paper machine, felt roll bearings are vulnerable to corrosive contaminates during operation and washdown. If contaminates penetrate the bearing, they reduce its life to months from what would otherwise have been years. In order to purge contaminates from the bearings, they must be lubricated frequently. An effective seal prevents accelerated wear, limits lubricant deterioration, reduces lubricant requirements and extends lubricant intervals. To this end, NTN has developed an optimized spherical roller bearing with integral seals. Two robust contact seals complement any existing sealing currently used in the housing. The bearing package provides a specifically selected premium lubricant pre-filled at NTN’s manufacturing facility. The units are drop-in replacements for the ISO 223xx series bearings found in felt roll applications.
