AES Engineering, a modular mechanical seal manufacturer based in northern England, manufactures products designed to protect the environment, emphasizing the importance of the careful specification of the sealing systems that deal with hazardous process liquids. Marketed under the name Aesseal, these seals are used in such industries as food processing, chemicals, pulp and paper, oil, electricity generation, steel manufacture and water and waste treatment.

In one application using china clay, the company installed a 75-mm double seal, using the contaminated water as a barrier fluid. The life of the entire pump, normally measured in weeks, has been over a year, saving time and money.
